LEINEMANN & PARTNER

Comment: This leading firm in construction law not only boasts one of the largest teams in the market but also takes part in numerous large projects such as JadeWeserPort, Stuttgart 21 and Berliner Schloss. In addition, the team appears with notable frequency on behalf of syndicates during infrastructure projects, drawing on its expertise in public procurement and PPP. Well established in traditional advice to contractors (including internationally), L&P is expanding its engagement with principals, often advising clients from outside the construction industry. Recent clients of this kind were the energy company EnBW and a health insurer on construction of a health center. Strategic expansion also increasingly allows the firm to advise clients on real estate. Corestate is a new client that formerly relied on traditional real estate firms but decided to consult L&P on the purchase of an industrial property in Düsseldorf. The firm has always had a strong litigation practice and is now active in international arbitration as well. However, the loss of a team around long-standing partner Sebastian Thomas to Breyer was a setback for the internal bolstering of the modest Frankfurt office.
Strengths: Advice to syndicates on infrastructure projects; strong connections between construction, real estate and public procurement.
Development potential: Competitors consistently mention that the quality of advice varies greatly within the firm. The goal of bringing every lawyer up to expert level is a first step towards homogeneity.
