Pohlmann & Company

Gaining entrance to the US market without a US office? Many would declare it impossible. But this small German compliance and governance boutique has managed to do just that. Its wide acceptance on the other side of the Atlantic was impressively demonstrated when the US authorities retained the firm as monitor for a Dutch company. Its work as a compliance advisor for the VW monitor not much later was also significant. With this instruction, the firm around founder Dr. Andreas Pohlmann has more than just a foot in the door of the most lucrative market in the world. Thanks to the membership of the name partner in a special committee for the reappraisal of the Brazilian corruption scandal, the door to South America is wide open to boot.
In Germany too, the team has won a top-class client base (incl. Bosch and Benteler) which, thanks to its multidisciplinary approach, it often advises on risk and process assessments. With its advice to the Government Pension Fund of Norway on its investments, the firm has taken on one of the important issues of the future: compliance advice related to ethics, which received a tangible boost with the Anti-Slavery Act in the UK. In comparison, the steady momentum in corporate and liability advice has all but retreated into the background.
If things continue at this pace, the firm will have to call in reinforcements – if only to spread some of the load of principal rainmaker Pohlmann.
