Noerr

Comment: This highly recommended antitrust practice is continuing its expansion process. In 2017 Noerr named two equity partners from its own ranks: Badtke in Berlin and Israel in Brussels. Antitrust is now covered in Hamburg as well, thanks to Metzlaff’s transfer from Berlin. The practice is strategically well positioned for damages cases: Noerr has gained new clients here, thanks esp. to the great experience of Westermann and Birnstiel, who are active in comprehensive proceedings.
Strengths: Strong expertise in ?media and ?distribution; close connections with antitrust lawyers at the eastern European offices.
Development potential: Noerr plans to place a stronger focus on antitrust compliance. A closer connection between Badtke and the strong Frankfurt ?compliance practice would be helpful here.
Recommended: Dr. Kathrin Westermann, (“a smart team manager”, competitor), Dr. Alexander Birnstiel, Prof. Dr. Karsten Metzlaff (distribution), Alexander Israel (“easy to work with”, competitor), Dr. Fabian Badtke (“pleasant and efficient to work with”, “increasingly visible”, competitors).
Practice: A broad practice with a focus on antitrust and distribution advice. Also merger controls, damages suits and compliance. Sectors: automotive (esp. in Brussels), construction, ?media, clothing, energy, insurance and increasingly healthcare. Often active for clients who receive all-round advice from other practice groups at the firm. Also ?state aid, incl. cooperation with the ?insolvency administration practice. (6 equity partners, 4 salary partners, 1 counsel, 10 associates)
Clients: ?? Bahlsen on candy cartel proceedings before Higher Regional Court (Oberlandesgericht); Johnson Controls in EU cartel case over battery recycling; Electronic Partner on damages claims against the pipe systems cartel; Danpower in antitrust proceedings over long-distance heating prices; Fresenius Kabi on a compliance program.
